Hygiene

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and a very common condition that many people may not even know they have. At Diamond Dental, we can help stop this disease developing, or getting any worse, by offering a comprehensive oral health assessment and personalised treatment plan.

The first stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis, which causes redness, swelling and bleeding when brushing. If this is left untreated, it can develop into periodontitis, which can affect the supporting soft tissue and bone around teeth, causing them to become loose.

The best way to prevent gum disease is to brush your teeth thoroughly for at least two minutes, twice a day, and clean between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes. As part of our hygiene services, we will demonstrate the best way to do this, so you know how to care for your precious teeth at home.

We will also ‘scale and polish’ your teeth to remove soft plaque and stubborn tartar deposits, which will leave your teeth looking and feeling extra clean. It is the bacteria in plaque that causes gum disease, so by deep cleaning your teeth we can help reduce your risk and deter further plaque deposits from sticking to the shinier, smoother surface.

We use the powerful Airflow polishing system for an extreme clean. This uses a concentrated jet of water, air and bicarbonate to blast away stains and reach any awkward places that may normally be missed.

By seeing us regularly for hygiene treatments, you are not only ensuring the health of your teeth and gums, but also safeguarding your general well-being as poor oral health has been linked to a risk of developing serious conditions, such as heart disease and strokes.
